Happy Friday! For this edition of the Employee Spotlight series, we’re excited to feature Adrienne Villar. Adrienne is a 340B Auditor and has been with the SpendMend team for two years.  When asked what she looks forward to in her future with SpendMend, she shared, “I learned about SpendMend through the 340B industry and actually used them as my auditors before I became an employee.” Adrienne is originally from Los Angeles, California, and attended Cerritos College. While she originally planned to pursue pharmacy school, she decided instead to earn an Associate’s Degree in Self-Development and Social Behavior. Before joining SpendMend, Adrienne worked at the Community Clinic Association of LA County (CCALAC)—an organization supporting community health centers. She found it incredibly rewarding to work with clinics and health centers serving underserved areas of Los Angeles County. Adrienne states, “My role at CCALAC gave me perspective on just how broken our healthcare system is in the wealthiest country in the world.  And just how important obtaining medication is for these underserved communities.” Her primary focus was helping clinics establish pharmacy programs so patients, many of whom were uninsured or underinsured, could access the medications they needed. We’re proud that Adrienne continues to support clinics and hospitals through her work at SpendMend. Outside of work, Adrienne enjoys playing Bingo! Her parents have played for years, and she eventually picked it up as an adult. She loves the excitement of the group game, especially when she and her husband play at SouthPoint Casino in Las Vegas—they try to go twice a year. Sounds like we need to add Bingo to the next SpendMend Annual Meeting agenda! Another one of Adrienne’s favorite pastimes is being a cheer mom. Her daughter has been cheering for about thirteen years, starting at just five years old. Adrienne loves watching her daughter thrive and seeing the whole team practice and prepare. Her favorite memory as a cheer mom was watching her daughter and her team win USA Nationals back-to-back in 2024 and 2025! When asked how the team typically celebrates after cheer events and competition, Adrienne said, “We have the best parent participation, and we will always take the girls out after to celebrate, to eat, or just hang out!”

Adrienne is a fantastic 340B Auditor! We asked Cat Webb, Senior Lead Auditor Trainer, about Adrienne, and she said, “Adrienne has built an incredible rapport with our clients and has dedicated her career to 340B. Her strong client relations skills and tenacity are valuable assets she brings to the SpendMend Pharmacy team.” We are grateful to have Adrienne on the SpendMend team!

Interview with Adrienne:

What is your role at SpendMend?

340B Auditor

How long have you been with SpendMend?

Two years

How did you first learn about SpendMend?

I learned about SpendMend through the 340B industry and actually used them as my auditors before I became an employee.

What three words would you use to describe SpendMend?

Committed, excellence, and thriving.

Where are you located/from?

I live in Los Angeles, CA.

Where did you go for higher education?

I attended Cerritos College.

What did you study and why?

I received my AA in Self-Development and Social Behavior. I wanted to go to pharmacy school originally but it didn’t work out, so I used my credits to complete my AA.

Why do you look forward to coming to work?

Every day is different with so much to learn, and the team I work with is amazing.

Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

A few years before coming to SpendMend, I worked with an organization that assisted Free and Community Health Centers. Working at CCALAC gave me an opportunity to work with the safety net community and the underserved in LA County.

What initially attracted you to working with Free and Community Health Centers?

It was very rewarding working with clinics and health centers in the most underserved areas of Los Angeles County. Helping these clinics set up pharmacy programs so their patients had access to medications. Most patients were uninsured or underinsured.

How did your role at CCALAC shape your perspective on healthcare and the underserved communities?

My role at CCALAC gave me perspective on just how broken our healthcare system is in the wealthiest country in the world. And just how important obtaining medication is for these underserved communities.

What is one fun fact about you?

I love to play Bingo!

How did you first get into playing Bingo?

So funny that everyone thinks BINGO is just for old(er) folks with all the trinkets and such, but it is not. My husband and I love it! My parents have been playing for years, and I guess I just picked it up from them as an adult (after spending many years making fun of them for playing).

What’s your favorite part about playing Bingo?

It’s a fun game, and I think we have better chances of winning. I like that it’s in a large group setting, and you get to play with others.

Do you have a favorite place or event where you enjoy playing?

We love to play at SouthPoint Casino in Las Vegas.

How often do you get to play Bingo?

We try to go twice a year or so.

What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?

Sirius XM Yacht Rock Radio

Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?

My extra time is usually filled being a cheer mom!

How long have you been a cheer mom?

My daughter has been cheering for 13 years, since she was 5 years old. She is currently a senior in high school, and this is the end of a chapter for us.

What do you enjoy most about it?

I love seeing my daughter do what she loves most.

What’s your favorite part of cheer season?

The anticipation of the new season, watching the girls practice so hard, and preparing.

What’s the most challenging?

The schedule can be hectic at times.

Do you have a favorite memory or moment from your experiences as a cheer mom?

Winning USA Nationals back-to-back in 2024 and 2025!

How do you typically celebrate after competitions or big cheer events?

We have the best parent participation, and we will always take the girls out after to celebrate, to eat, or just hang out.

Who do you interact with at SpendMend?

Clients and potential clients.

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?

My job will sometimes include helping existing clients get extra help they may need from other SpendMend products. I will put them in touch with the right contact to ensure they get the help they need.

What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?

Sincere appreciation for helping prepare a client for a HRSA audit.

What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?

The best part of serving the healthcare market is making a difference. It’s my job to keep my clients compliant so they can continue to run successful 340B programs.

Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?

Cat Webb is a coworker who continually helps and inspires me! She always makes herself available to lend a hand or answer a question.

What advice do you have for prospective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?

SpendMend is an amazing place to work. There are so many great people here who are ready to welcome you to the team!
