Hello everyone! To finish up this week, we wanted to bring you another edition of the Employee Spotlight Series! This time around, our focus is on Chelsea Violette! Chelsea is the Director of Optimization and Lead Pharmacist Auditor and joined the SpendMend team about two years ago. When asked what the best part about working with her team is, Chelsea states, “They’re supportive and fun to work with! We have so many creative thinkers that expand the way I see the world, which I love.” It was wonderful to learn more about Chelsea’s enthusiasm and commitment to her work, and we are happy to share some details about her life outside of SpendMend as well. Something interesting about Chelsea is that she loves to sing! With both of her parents involved in music, she grew up singing her whole life. From a young age, she was a part of every school choir and actively participated in school musicals! Throughout her college years, she lived the real life of “Pitch Perfect” in the A Capella group called DownBeats. The DownBeats even competed in A Cappella competitions! Another fun fact about Chelsea is that she likes to garden in her free time. Like singing, gardening was a Saturday activity established in her family growing up. Chelsea has fond memories of waking up, and putting music on in the backyard to aid the garden tending! If you are curious about how to start a garden, you know who to reach out to! In addition to gardening, Chelsea enjoys spending time with her dogs outdoors. Chelsea has two dogs Peanut and Lola! While Peanut is full of energy and ready to play, you can always count on Lola by Chelsea’s side during the work! It’s like “Bring your dog to work day,” every day. Talk about a supportive co-worker!

Chelsea does a wonderful job for us in her roles, and we had several co-workers tell us how great it is having her on the team. Jennifer Hagen, Director of Compliance and Development, said “Chelsea Violette is one of those unique individuals who can take on anything you throw at her regardless of how much is on her plate. She will find a way to pull through and do so in such a way that is beyond compare. Chelsea’s attention to detail in auditing along with superb client communication skills recently led to the opportunity to assist covered entities in the area of program growth and optimization where her outstanding years of experience in 340B compliance and leadership are leaned on for results. I am excited to see what this motivated, naturally talented, go-getter will accomplish in the next few years! Thank you, for all you do!” Having people like Chelsea on our team is what makes SpendMend great! We appreciate all that you do!

Interview with Chelsea:

What is your role at SpendMend?

Director of Optimization and Lead Pharmacist Auditor

How long have you been with SpendMend?

Two years

How did you first learn about SpendMend?

When the Turnkey team joined SpendMend

What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?

Hardworking, Client-centered, Experienced

Why do you look forward to coming to work?

I love helping organizations maintain the integrity of their 340B programs and helping them ensure they are leveraging all available savings to maximize the care they can provide to their patients.

Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

It wasn’t particularly unusual, but I worked at an ice cream owned by a couple from Greece, so we also served authentic gyros and souvlaki.

What is one fun fact about you?

I have an eidetic memory, which is helpful at times, but I’m sure makes my husband crazy sometimes.

What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?

All sorts of music or, when I have a lot to tackle, the movie A Few Good Men.

Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?

I love to sing, garden, maintain my fish tanks, go climbing with my husband, and relax in the yard with our dogs.

How long have you sung for? What types of songs do you like to sing? Do you perform?

I’ve sung my whole life; my mother is a music teacher and my dad is a musician so I didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter. I will sing anything and everything. I was in every choir I could be in through grade school and was in the school musicals. I had the lead female role in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying my senior year, which was a blast. I also sang in an A Capella group called the DownBeats throughout my college days and even got to compete in the ICCAs (check out Pitch Perfect). These days, I just sing around the house 24-7 and try to incorporate karaoke into conference trips when I can.

What got you into gardening? What do you enjoy most about gardening?

Again, I didn’t have much choice in the matter here either. Gardening was always a Saturday family activity in my house growing up. We would wake up, put music on in the backyard, and plant, weed, mulch, or whatever other tending needed to be done and that was most of our day. I find being in nature relaxing in general and enjoy the peace of being able to nurture the garden and watch it grow.

What types of dogs do you have?

We have a Jack Russel Terrier named Peanut-who is a ball of energy, jumps so high we swear he is part Tigger, and licks the air constantly, convincing us the other part of him is Snake. We also have a Maltese/Westie Mix named Lola who follows me everywhere and insists on going to work with me every day. If you’ve ever been in a meeting with me on Video, you’ve probably seen her in her cat tower next to me (the only way I could get her off my lap all day).

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?

I helped a client successfully work through a challenging HRSA audit after they had identified an error in their accumulating software that historically miscategorized some of the client’s data.

What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?

When I transitioned roles from a lead pharmacist auditor to working with our optimization team, a few clients requested I stay on as their auditor.

What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?

Helping increase access to high-quality, affordable healthcare.

Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?

I love working with all of our team!

What advice do you have for prospective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?

Get ready to work hard and with a great team!

What has been your proudest accomplishment at SpendMend?

I love helping clients successfully make it through a HRSA audit with no findings and providing webinars that help entities improve or expand their 340B programs.

What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?

I look forward to the opportunity to work with more entities in the endeavor to support and grow their 340B programs.
