Hello everyone! We hope you all had a fantastic week! To kick off this weekend, we want to tell you about Eric Florance! Eric is an Audit Manager and has been a part of the SpendMend team for four years. Eric believes that the best part of serving the healthcare market is, “Knowing that we are making a difference strengthens our client’s financial position, enabling them to do more for their patients.” Eric looks forward to SpendMend’s growth and expansion in service offerings and knows that the best is yet to come! Outside of work, Eric enjoys adventurous outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, fishing and hunting. His love for nature started at a young age from trout fishing trips with his grandfather. His most memorable location in Michigan to fish are the streams off of AuSable river. If you are ever in Northern Michigan, you have to check it out! You can also catch Eric traveling around the country to explore the outdoors with his family. He likes to take his twin children to new places as much as possible. This year they’ve gone to Colorado to hike and to South Carolina to swim in the ocean! If you have any destination recommendations for their next adventure, let Eric know! In addition to traveling, Eric and his family also love to participate in SpendMend community service events together. So far, his three-year old twins have made the Bee Brave 5k walk every year!

Eric is an inspired leader and valued member of our team! He is greatly appreciated by fellow co-workers. Laura Nagy, Audit Manager, said “I have come to know Eric better over the last few years, and he is my partner in crime when it comes to conducting auditor training sessions.  He is always willing to take the lead, volunteer for certain tasks, and is very helpful (especially if it’s something related to data).  He knows how to lighten up a mood, and you can always count on him to have a witty comment.  First and foremost, though, Eric has SpendMend’s best interest at heart, and SpendMend would not be the same without him!” We are so thankful to have people like Eric a part of SpendMend! Thanks for all your hard work, Eric!

Interview with Eric:

How long have you been with SpendMend?

4 years

How did you first learn about SpendMend?

I interviewed an associate of SpendMend to come work for me at Meijer.

What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?

Fast Paced, Rewarding, Client Focused

Why do you look forward to coming to work?

I enjoy the pace and having new goals each day.

Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

US Army Reserves Construction Engineer

What is one fun fact about you?

I have twins: a boy and a girl.

What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History or Jocko Podcast

Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?

Kayaking, Hiking, Fishing, and Hunting.

Who do you interact with in the healthcare market?

Clients, Suppliers, and Potential Clients

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?

For example: we brought the Supplier and the Client both to the table to work through past due invoices and resolve a series of over payments. The reason why this sticks out in my mind the most is this was in the first 2 months of my role as an Audit Manager and the first time that I had the opportunity to bring two parties together for a mutually beneficial resolution.

What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?

(From a Supplier) You are not like other recovery audit firms that simply snatch credits off a statement.

Would you like to give a shout out to a client or supplier?

All of our clients deserve a shout out for handing the COVID-19 pandemic. They have all had to make sacrifices to get us through this difficult time.

What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?

Knowing that we are making a difference strengthens our clients financial position, enabling them to do more for their patients.

What is your favorite Recovery Room Activity?

Coffee.

What has been your experience with SpendMend community service events?

Me and my family do the Bee Brave 5k walk every year. So far my 3 year old twins have made the walk every year.

What is your favorite in house event? (specific potluck, chili cook-off, bring your kid to work day, etc.)

Chili Cook Off.

Do you participate in the Chili Cook Off event? Whose chili is your favorite from SpendMend?

My preference is to judge the chili cookoff. We have some great cooks within the company and what catches my interest is a traditional chili (tomato and chili base, with meat, and beans) with a twist. For example, we had one associate who did a smoked beef jerky chili which I give a lot of credit to that person for taking a chance.

Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?

Cindy Allen– She is always willing to dig in/put in the extra hours to do what it takes to get any task done.

What advice do you have for prospective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?

My advice to a candidate would be the same if they were coming to SpendMend or any company: “Your attitude will dictate your experiences.”

What has been your proudest accomplishment at SpendMend?

Being a part of the successful transition of the CMS acquisition and being a part of a company that has been going so quickly (3x + growth in four years)

What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?

The continued growth in our company through the expansionism of our services offerings (our best is yet to come).
