SpendMend 7.5 to Help Hospitals Tighten Online Security

SpendMend, the leading provider of solutions to optimize the cost-cycle for the healthcare industry, today announced the delivery of the latest version of their Client Portal. SpendMend 7.5 features several new security measures for their clients, including SSO and IP restriction enhancements. The new release provides critical measures to help hospitals and healthcare systems strengthen their digital defenses in reaction to the sharp increase in cybersecurity breaches, ransomware attacks and fraud that has arisen out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SpendMend’s latest release includes expanded SSO controls to help hospitals and healthcare systems more efficiently manage the set-up and/or discontinuation of portal end-users throughout their centralized or decentralized environment. In addition, SpendMend’s portal supports attack surface reduction by giving clients the ability to allow access only to their end-users connecting from the corporate network or VPN. With an increasing remote workforce, higher than normal turnover and ever-expanding cybersecurity threats, hospitals and healthcare systems can leverage these security features to mitigate risk associated with unauthorized access of potentially sensitive information.

A joint alert from HHS, DHS CISA, and the FBI delivered on October 28 read in part, “CISA, FBI, and HHS assess malicious cyber actors are targeting the HPH Sector with TrickBot and BazarLoader malware, often leading to ransomware attacks, data theft, and the disruption of healthcare services. These issues will be particularly challenging for organizations within the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, administrators will need to balance this risk when determining their cybersecurity investments.”

“The healthcare industry has experienced a steep and alarming increase in online security breaches and ransomware attacks,” states Jeremy Toth, SpendMend CIO and healthcare data security expert, “We place the utmost priority on maintaining the security of our clients’ data, and in particular, sensitive patient data. Many of the new features we have placed in the SpendMend 7.5 release are in direct response to the ever-increasing demand for, and importance of, securing the data that is entrusted to SpendMend in the process of delivering on our best-in-class services.”

The full SpendMend 7.5 security feature is immediately available for all current clients with no limitations or restrictions.
