Hello everyone! Let’s celebrate Friday with an edition of the Employee Spotlight Series. This week we are highlighting Joe Heminger. Joe is a Business Development Manager and has been a part of the SpendMend team for five years (including an internship)! When asked what the best part of serving the healthcare market was, he stated, “The best part about serving the healthcare market is that all of the services we offer ultimately help our clients fund and provide a better quality of patient care.” Some fun facts about Joe are that he grew up on the east side of Michigan in a small town. He attended Grand Valley State University and then moved to the west side of the state. When Joe isn’t working, he loves to spend his time out and about. He enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing! He was introduced by his grandfather and uncle when he was 12 years old. Joe enjoys hunting for the scenery and relaxing setting the most. Another hobby that Joe enjoys is playing the guitar! Joe picked up playing the guitar at the age of 13. He has always loved the blues and classic rock, and it piqued his interest in learning to play! Maybe we can hear Joe’s guitar skills at the next company retreat? Does anyone have any song suggestions?
Joe does a fantastic job in his role and is a valued team member. Al Brander, Chief Sales Officer, said “Joe has been a great addition to the Med Device team. He is emailing and cold-calling hospitals across the country to set up appointments for us to show our solution. He has a great attitude and is a pleasure to work with.” We are thankful to have Joe on the SpendMend team, and we appreciate his hard work!

How did you first learn about SpendMend?
I learned about SpendMend from a family member that works here.
What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?

Why do you look forward to coming to work?
I enjoy contributing and helping SpendMend grow
Where are you from/where did you grow up?
I grew up on the east side of the state in a small town called St. Clair but I moved to an even smaller town on the west side of the state called Hesperia (40 minutes north of Muskegon).
Where did you go for college/higher education?
I attended Grand Valley State!
Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I worked at Road Commission for a few summers when I was in college. I did everything from paving roads to picking up dead deer off the road.
What is one fun fact about you?
I’m getting married in July 2023
What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?
I enjoy a wide variety of music but often will listen to the Joe Rogan Podcast or any golf podcast during the day
Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?
I have a hobby for every season! In no particular order, I like to play golf, hunt, fish, play the guitar, go boating, kayaking, and anything else that gets me out of the house.
When did you start hunting and fishing?
I started hunting and fishing when I was 12.
Is there someone who piqued your interest to start hunting?
My grandfather and uncle got me involved because it was one of their passions
What’s your favorite part about hunting?
I enjoy the scenery and calm relaxing setting you get in the woods or on the lake away from everyone else.
When did you pick up playing the guitar and why? What’s your favorite type of music to play?
I play guitar just as a way to relax I don’t play in a band or anything. I’ve always enjoyed the blues and classic rock so that’s mainly why I started when I was 13.

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?
A client was struggling to track their explant credits and was overwhelmed. When I reached out and told them about our solution they said it was a huge relief that there was a way to manage their process that helped bridge the gaps they had. It’s nice offering some relief for clients!

What is your favorite Recovery Room Activity?
Ping Pong for sure! Never get tired of beating Hannah and Nick
What has been your experience with SpendMend community service events?
I have not been to many recently, but the Bee Brave 5k was always my favorite.
How many times have you been involved in the Bee Brave 5k?
I’ve only been to the bee brace 5k once unfortunately but I would like to go again. I ran it with my dad and it was a great atmosphere!
What is your favorite in-house event? (specific potluck, chili cook-off, bring your kid to work day, etc.)
My favorite would have to be the Euchre tournament!

I would like to shout out Nicole Thompson for always being so helpful and knowledgeable.
