Welcome to the Employee Spotlight Series! For this edition, we are highlighting Katie Caggiano. Katie is a Statement Caller and joined the SpendMend a little over nine months ago. She describes SpendMend in three words, “Friendly, Cooperative, and Engaging.” A fun fact about Katie is that she is from California, but she currently lives in Kansas! Another fun fact is that Katie traveled a lot when she was a kid. She started flying on airplanes by herself at ten years old! She began traveling at a young age so she could visit her family in New York! Her favorite place to visit is Flordia because she is a big fan of Universal Studios. Sounds like a fun time to enjoy a vacation! During Katie’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family! She loves playing board games with them. Katie does a great job as a Statement Caller! Steve Korda, Audit Supervisor, said, “Since Katie joined the all-star team known as the Silver Pod, she has shown a strong determination in getting statements in on, at times, every audit the pod had to work on. She brings a friendly, upbeat attitude to the position, and is always willing to help out others. What is your role at SpendMend?
Statement Caller
How long have you been with SpendMend?
A little over 9 months
How did you first learn about SpendMend?
My mother is a current auditor. She recommended me.
What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?
Friendly, Cooperative, Engaging
Where are you located/from?
I am in Kansas but from California.
Why do you look forward to coming to work?
I look forward to coming to work, being a part of a team, and helping the company reach its goals.
Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I only had 2 jobs prior to SpendMend and it was both retail jobs.
What kinds of retail jobs did you work at?
I worked at Walmart at the height of covid
What is one fun fact about you?
I traveled a lot when I was a kid. I started flying on planes by myself when I was 10 years old.
What piqued your interest to start traveling at a young age?
I had family in New York who wanted me to visit them so I would travel to see them.
What are some of your favorite travel destinations and why?
My favorite place I suppose would be Florida because I went to Universal which was a fun time.
What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?
I primarily call during the day so I do not really listen to anything to ensure the people I am talking to over the phone don’t hear anything. Occasionally during lunches, I will put on simple jazz music.
Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?
I play games with my friends and family outside of work.
What kinds of games do you enjoy playing with your friends and family?
Mostly just board games with my family and friends.
What is your favorite game and why?
My favorite would probably be Scattergories.

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?
A majority of my interactions are usually the same. The only time I can think that stands out is when I had a supplier call me three times in one day to ask questions since they were new to the position and I was unfamiliar territory for them. I was able to answer questions and curb any unsureness they had.
What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?
The best compliment I received was that my voice sounded very friendly and I even had one supplier say I was a “breath of fresh air” because I was patient with them and did not attempt to rush them.
What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?
The best part is knowing that my work helps the grand scheme of things in an important field of work.
Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?
My mother Jessica Caggiano is a huge help. I often will ask questions to her or run something by her. When suppliers misspelled my email by putting a J instead of a K she forwards them to me all the time. It’s great teamwork.
What advice do you have for prospective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?
To always put one foot in front of the other and never be afraid to ask questions.
What has been your proudest accomplishment at SpendMend?
My proudest accomplishment would most likely be the day where I got in at least 20 statements into my personal email or the day I got in a statement with a 70k credit.
What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?
I look forward to growing and advancing in the company.
