Happy Friday everyone! We hope you are ready to celebrate Halloween with fun costumes and sweet treats! To start off the weekend strong, let’s introduce you to Tyler Pierson for this edition of the Employee Spotlight Series. Tyler is an Auditor and has been a part of the SpendMend team for five years! Tyler describes SpendMend in three words, “Team, Fun, Challenging.” The challenge of figuring out puzzles and finding solutions for clients is what excites Tyler the most about his work! During the workweek, he likes to listen to horror podcasts and true crime/murder podcasts. Some in particular that he enjoys the most are, “The No Sleep Podcast” and “Small Town Murder.” His current favorite is FaceJam – which is very different from Tyler’s typical podcast line-up but it involves comedy and food, what is not to like? We will definitely check out these new recommendations for the upcoming work week! When Tyler isn’t working with current SpendMend clients and suppliers, he enjoys snowboarding and playing video games. Tyler has been snowboarding for almost 12 years and frequently goes to Caberfae in Cadillac, MI! He loves going to the resort right when it first opens so he can have free range and get a few runs in when it’s quiet! Tyler has his sights on visiting Colorado someday to hit the slopes, who’s with him?! A fun fact about Tyler is that he has a fraternal twin brother! Some of his favorite memories with his brother are when they climbed mountains together. They climbed Camelback Mountain and Superstition Mountain in AZ, and had a blast! Be sure to read the full interview below to learn more about Tyler and his brother’s climbing experience!

Tyler does a terrific job in his role as an Auditor! He always puts 100% into his work and brings his team spirit every day! Carolina Tapia, Audit Supervisor, said, “Tyler is always ready to take on new tasks when asked. He is always willing to help with training and assisting new people. And that is highly appreciated!” It was great getting to know a little more about Tyler, and we are so grateful for all the hard work he does! People like him are what makes SpendMend great! Thank you, Tyler!

Interview with Tyler:

What is your role at SpendMend?

Auditor

How long have you been with SpendMend?

5 years

How did you first learn about SpendMend?

I had a friend who worked here back in the day

What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?

Team, Fun, Challenging

Why do you look forward to coming to work?

I enjoy the challenges of figuring out the puzzles of credits on our clients’ accounts

Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked at a zoo when I was in high school and when I was in college I did a summer working at Cedar Point

What is one fun fact about you?

I have a twin brother

Can you tell me more about your twin brother? Any fun things you bond over?

We’re fraternal – he’s 46 mins older than me – we’ve climbed a couple of mountains together in AZ; Camelback Mountain which is 2,706ft and Superstition Mountain which is 5,059ft. I climbed Superstition Mountain once the year before by myself but got lost on the way up and didn’t make it to the top – so obviously had to go back with my brother and try again lol.

What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?

Usually horror podcasts or true crime/murder podcasts. The No Sleep Podcast is a pretty good horror podcast with good voice acting. Small Town Murder is a good true crime/murder podcast – it’s a good combination of looking into small-town murders and comedy. My current favorite podcast is FaceJam – it’s some goofy guys who eat “limited time” items from fast food places and rate them.

Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?

I play video games; Pretty much everything. Madden, CoD, Fall Guys, and Minecraft is always a good time. I snowboard – usually go to Caberfae up in Cadillac MI. It’s a good price and a decent-sized resort. Hopefully, make it out to Colorado someday. I’ve been snowboarding since 2010. My favorite part about snowboarding is when you get to the resort real early when they first open and get a few runs in before it gets busy. Conditions are usually better and it’s nice and quiet.

Do you interact with

Clients & Suppliers

Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?

Too many to remember any specifically

What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?

I don’t think I’ve ever got a compliment from a client or supplier

What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?

With the pandemic, it’s made serving the healthcare market even more interesting

What is your favorite Recovery Room Activity?

Before the pandemic – ping pong – I never won much but always had fun playing

What has been your experience with SpendMend community service events?

Not much – I live further away from the community so I haven’t been able to participate as much as I’d like.

What is your favorite in-house event? (specific potluck, chili cook-off, bring your kid to work day, etc.)

The chili cook-off is definitely my favorite. I entered only one time and didn’t place but, Mr. G said mine was his favorite that year.

Do you want to shout out to a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?

Patrick VanderBerg – Patrick trained me back in the day when I started working here as an auditor and he has been so helpful over the years. As I continue to learn and grow I know I can always bug him with questions.

What has been your proudest accomplishment at SpendMend?

Entering an almost $1m claim for a client ($989k to be exact).

What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?

Continuing to have fun and be challenged every day.
